Mexican Liz Flower Ceramic Talavera Sink- Drop-in Basin
Regular price $495 Unit price per
Such a classic Mexican design! This unique design is created so the bowl drops into your countertop with its lip sitting above. The bowl is deep enough for the running water not to splash outside the wash basin.
HISTORY: Around 8 centuries ago, Arabs moved into North Africa, then into Europe. Their glazed designs on ceramics, known as Majolica, were made with pigments on raw or unfired glaze. Majolica was introduced in Mexico in the 1700s when Spanish monks brought over artisans from Talavera de La Reina in Spain. The Mexican craftsmen blended the Majolica process with their own interpretation resulting in their own art forms and colours. Their product became to be known as Talavera. The Talavera produced in certain workshops in Puebla is now officially designated, recognised and protected by the Government of Mexico. This exclusive sink design is made in the traditional Talavera technique.
Size : Outside diameter: 35.5 cm x 43 cm, height 15 cm

The basin is carefully packaged and secured against any damage during transport.
Each of these artistic sinks is moulded and painted by hand, and may have slight variations which add to their appeal. They are made of ceramic and fired twice: once before they are decorated, and a second time after they are glazed. Talavera colours and shine will not fade with proper care. We recommend NOT to use abrasive cleaners, as they "eat-up" the finish.
Pop-up strainers for the standard size drain are available from retailers.

My name is Lee Dashiell, and I created Unique Sinks in 2016 to offer handcrafted, unusual and beautiful sinks to Australians, where most sinks available from retail outlets are white and standard, lacking any character or unique quality. I now sell sinks all over the world from both this website and my UK website.
HOW IT ALL STARTED
So, we were travelling in Mexico and saw these beautiful hand-painted sinks in a quaint stall. As we were about to renovate our bathroom in Sydney, we thought it would be a great addition to the design. So...there we were with this cumbersome, fragile sink as hand luggage - which we dragged across our travels in the US, Europe and Asia.
WORTH IT! We got it home and were so please with it. And, we got to thinking - why aren't there more unusual sinks/basins available across Australia... and so Unique Sinks was born.
Over the years, I have sourced basins from all over the world. And not always with success. I have received sinks with very poor glazing, bad packaging or even broken. (Well, I turned those into a mosaic birdbath, didn't I?) But over time I have found suppliers with reliable, consistent quality who I can depend on.
I hope you love the variety available here which can transform the smallest room in the house to one filled with personality and style!
